Dorothy L. Highland

Dorothy L. Highland, 82, died Saturday, January 4, 2003, in Carbondale, Illinois. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Huffman-Harker Funeral Home with Dr. K. Stephen Combs officiating. Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Huffman-Harker Funeral Home. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
Dorothy was born on December 25, 1920 in Bush, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Rowena (Alexander) Petty. She married Lewis R. Highland on August 31, 1942; he passed away on January 2, 1976.
Dorothy was a homemaker. She enjoyed her family, many neighbors and friends, cooking, and her numerous pets. She was of the Methodist Faith.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary A. and Betsy (Lerner) Highland of Carbondale, three grandsons, John, Chuck, and Bobby Highland all of Carbondale, a niece whom she thought of as a daughter, Sharon (Hayes) Childs and her husband John C. Childs of DuQuoin, great-nieces Katie and Laura Childs of DuQuoin, nieces Thelma (Stewart) Leek and Darla (Stewart) Macke, both of Elkville, and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Lewis R. Highland, Jr., one brother, Billy Joe Petty, and three sisters, Florence Stewart, Katherine Petty, and Imogene Keifer.
